The sign inside the barat the end of the bridge claims the Jorullo Bridge is the longest vehicular suspension bridge in the world. While that claim is likely inaccurate, the bridge is still quite lengthy, stretching 514 yards (470 meters) across the open chasm.

The bridge crosses the Cuale River from a height of 492 feet. 35 local farmers built the bridge alongside local engineers in 18 months. There are purple “x”s on some boards whose meaning is unclear.

There is a fee of about 845 Mexican pesos (the ticket collector offered a crappy exchange rate for US dollars so having pesos would be wise.) The bridge is sloped so you may get out of breath depending on your fitness level, but it seems doable for most people. There’s also a zip-lining and ATV tour business that runs alongside the bridge, and there may be an ATV on the bridge with you. There is a touristy restaurant on the property if you are hungry and ample bathrooms.

The bridge is part of Canopy River’s activities and tours, an ecotourism resort 5 miles (about 20 minutes) outside of Puerto Vallarta.

Know Before You Go

A cobblestone road winds up the mountain to the bridge. Most cars would have no problem making the journey.
